November 19, 2017 — Supporting Campus Ministers

Last week I participated in four major projects. On Monday and Tuesday I was in Atlanta for meetings with the other Area Coordinators and national RUF staff. We discussed changes in benefits, financial policies, upcoming events, etc. Some good news is that the increase in health insurance cost will be much lower than originally announced. Ruth went along, which made the trip far more enjoyable. We flew home on Wednesday in time for her to get to her co-op class.

On Thursday Ruth again accompanied me on the visit to Westminster Seminary to promote RUF as a ministry opportunity for the students when they graduate. Nick and Erin Owens came up from Delaware to share their experience in starting an RUF ministry. It was a good day and we made some good contacts.

On Saturday I drove to New Jersey to speak to the New Jersey Presbytery about our progress with the new RUF ministry at Rowan University. The men had good questions, and I was glad to be there to answer them. Brent seems to be a good campus minister for Rowan, but he still has a lot of money to raise. Pray for a breakthrough in funding for RUF at Rowan University.

On Thursday and Friday I finally was able to be in the office at the same time as my new assistant, Kristy Hard. She had begun working the previous week, and I had to orient her over the phone. In spite of that, Kristy was able to accomplish some important work, and then last week we were able to clear up a lot of questions which I couldn’t answer over the phone. Bonnie will still help us from Oklahoma until next month. Then Kristy will have to handle everything in the office. Praise God for a new assistant!

As you can see, I didn’t get to campus at all last week – but the work we did is essential to finding, equipping, funding, and sustaining our campus ministers.
